Zawahiri Video Compilation
With the release of the Zawahiri video today I thought it was time to update the compilation of screen shots of his videos – (they are labeled by their date by year month day) some of the things of note
2005 4 25 was within days of the Saudi King dying (hence the outdoor environment)
2005 12 7 is the first without the brown background and with Al-Qaeda provided English subtitles
Beginning in 2006 with the notable exception of 2006 3 5 the production levels of the videos increased significantly.
2006 1 30 and 2006 2 20 could possibly be the same video just Al-Qaeda releasing the full video on the internet as one can see the As Sahab label behind the Al-Jazeera and the similarities of the staging.
2006 9 29 actually had two segments (they can been seen in the Zaw 2) also this one has a very odd background that looks to be computer generated or perhaps a set, meant to look like a “realistic” office as opposed to 2006 6 23 and 2006 7 27 which had relatively advanced graphics.
2006 8 5 was actually an intro to another individuals video
9 of 19 does not have a gun in the background. (the most recent one does and on the opposite side if him)
Perhaps the most interesting is that the 2006 9 11 and the 2007 5 5 the bookcases in the background appear to be the same material/coloring making it likely that these were shot in the same room. Given the increased production values beginning in 2006 might mean that Zawahiri is both in an urban area and that he is remaining in the same general vicinity or at least cycling through the same “safe houses” for the last 8 months.
