I am a National Security specialists who currently works in Washington D.C. (insert your own joke here). For myself individual and national sovereignty is sacrosanct, populist, neo-marxist or fascist trends and ideologies despite espousing democratic rhetoric are anything but democratic and represent a threat that must be dealt with. – In addition, democracy must be modeled on the respect for individual liberty, personal sovereignty, with its accompanying political-rights, which when combined with free-market economic principles, represents a good for society. If you have stumbled across this blog and think that you are going to convert me to either respecting or accepting other systems as just different do not waste yours, or more importantly my time.

Churchill and the issue of the real #3 in Al-Qaeda

There are two great paragraphs that are almost completely ignored from Churchill's Iron Curtain speech that I feel a special affinity to, and even more so on the issue of who is the real number 3 in Al-Qaeda which I fought back in May of 2005 and lost. This passage really came home after the 7/7 London bombings -

"Last time I saw it all coming and I cried aloud to my own fellow countrymen and to the world, but no one paid any attention. Up till the year 1933 or even 1935, Germany might have been saved from the awful fate which has overtaken her and we might all have been spared the miseries Hitler let loose upon mankind.

There never was a war in history easier to prevent by timely action than the one which has just desolated such great areas of the globe. It could have been prevented, in my belief, without the firing of a single shot, and Germany might be powerful, prosperous and honored today; but no one would listen and one by one we were all sucked into the awful whirlpool."

Obviously this is not close to the same level as World War 2, however it is analogous because public, media, and elite consensus held that Chamberlain was brilliant and was even celebrated as the hero after returning from Munich while Churchill was dismissed as a blow-hard delusional war hawk. History has of course justified Churchill but at an incredible cost, and unfortunately, if we continue to make the same mistakes we will inevitably pay our own high cost in the blood of innocents.
